ORTHOPEDICS

ORTHOPEDICS

Orthopedics, is a branch of medicine that uses both surgical and nonsurgical methods to assess and treat conditions of the musculoskeletal system, comprising of bones, joints, muscles, ligaments, and tendons. The conditions range from fractures and sports injuries to degenerative diseases and spinal deformities.

KNEE & HIP REPLACEMENT SURGERY

Knee and hip replacement are surgical procedures which involves the replacement of the damaged or worn-out portions of the knee or hip joints with artificial components also called implants. The aim of these procedures is to relieve pain, improve mobility, and restore functionality in patients with conditions like arthritis or other joint problems.

ARTHROSCOPY

Arthroscopy is a minimally invasive surgical procedure which involves the visualisation and evaluation of issues in a joint by a small, camera-equipped instrument called an arthroscope. This arthroscope is inserted through a tiny incision. It can also be used, to repair the internal structures joints, where necessary.

ARTHROPLASTY

Arthroplasty is a surgical procedure to restore the function of a joint wherein the treatment is beyond conventional treatments like medication or physical therapy. It involves the replacing, remodelling, or realigning the articular surface of a joint, by implanting an artificial component called prosthesis, which is made of materials like metal, plastic, or ceramic.

SPINE SURGERY

Spine surgery is an option exercised, where non-surgical treatments have been ineffective in providing pain relief. It is used to address conditions like herniated discs, spinal stenosis, scoliosis, and fractured vertebrae.

Common Spine Surgeries:

  • Discectomy:

This removal of all or part of a damaged intervertebral disc, for relieving pressure on a nerve that is caused by a herniated disc.

  • Laminectomy:

A laminectomy removes a portion of the lamina (the rear of a vertebra) to create space for the spinal cord and nerves, to relieve pressure from spinal stenosis.

  • Spinal Fusion:

This surgery involves bone grafts and metal implants to join two or more vertebrae thus stabilize the spine and eliminate painful motion.

  • Artificial Disc Replacement:

Replacement of a damaged disc with an artificial disc, made of metal and plastic, to restore movement and reduce pain.

  • Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery:

Minimally invasive techniques utilize smaller incisions and specialized instruments to perform procedures like discectomy and spinal fusion.

These techniques lead to less tissue damage, reduced pain, faster recovery times, and shorter hospital stays.
